Hand lettering in a Pilot Pen™ commercial? Absolutely!
The call came in to our CEO, Desiree Colonna, on a Thursday night from a company called Pogo Pictures in Atlanta. They needed a hand lettering and calligraphy expert to help create a commercial for their Frixion Erasable Pens®. They found Inkwell Designers on Google and immediately called after seeing the quality of our work. The producer explained they were doing a spot in which a woman would be writing several phrases with an erasable pen, then erasing the words to form a new sentence which became more empowering. Desiree was very excited to film the commercial and grateful for the call.
The only caveat was Desiree had to be in the studio at 6 am the very next morning. This was during the 85 shutdown when the bridge collapsed so there would be a lot of traffic. NO problem! Desiree said YES and was there promptly at 6 am looking a little worse for the wear but still excited!
Walking into the set was a whole new experience. There were people, cameras and signs everywhere. Production was in full swing at 6 am!
Desiree was shown to a room full of paper and pens. It was like nirvana for hand lettering artists!
Here is a picture of some of the work featured in the commercial itself. This hand lettering had to be rewritten and hand copied in different forms over 50 times to match the timing in the commercial. The whole process took about 12 hours.
The final hand lettering commercial aired on the Girl Starter series on TLC a few weeks ago. You can find a link here: https://ispot.tv/a/wAZA or you can see the final commercial below. Desiree and Inkwell Designers are very grateful to Steve Colby and the crew at Pogo Pictures for including us in the shoot and we hope to work with them again soon!
